Reddish Chemical Company Limited moved from Gorton Road in Reddish in 1959, and became "Reddish Detergents Ltd" in 1960. The new location of the company at this time was in the Stanley Green industrial Estate in Cheadle Hulme.

According to an article by the Stockport Express on 18 May 1978, the Reddish Chemical company began in 1929, in a chemist shop on 22 Gorton Road, Reddish, owned by Wilfred Hipkins. Hipkins, the village chemist, had manufactured his own cough candy which he sold in returnable jars as medicine for chest ailments. Hipkins had trouble cleaning the jars once they were returned, and so developed his own cleaning agent called "Kinray" which was harmless to aluminium and glass. With the help of Isaac Harrop, a clothing salesman and neighbour, Hipkins took Kinray to the Stockport Cooperative Dairy in Adswood where he sold it. Kinray was the perfect cleaner for the Aluminium containers used at that time to pasteurise milk at 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Hipkins and Harrop formed the reddish Chemical Company in 1929, and expanded operation into the food processing industry. Increased demand moved the business from the stables behind Hipkins' shop, to small sections of Scott's Wine Rope works, and in 1936 to a new building - Globe Works on Gorton Road. There was further expansion and a move in 1959 to the Stanley Green Industrial Estate in Cheadle Hulme. The name "Reddish Detergents Ltd" formed in 1960.
