Stockport’s Local Police Act dates from 1826 (7 Geo 4 c118). The Commissioners were in charge until the incorporation of the Borough in 1836. The Stockport County Borough Police combined with those of Cheshire and other county boroughs within Cheshire in 1967 to form the Cheshire constabulary.
