The tram service ran for fifty years from 1901 (Stockport Tramways Act, 63 & 64 Vict. c67). Buses were introduced in 1919. Public transport became a joint function of Stockport Metropolitan Borough and G.M.C. following local government reorganisation in 1974. For minutes see Committee Minutes.
