This area was in Handforth cum Bosden township from the 13th century until 1877 when it was redivided. It was in the county of Cheshire and the ancient parish of Cheadle. Initially, for a short period in 1837, Handforth cum Bosden was in Altrincham poor law union but it was soon transferred to Stockport. It was in Stockport Rural District from 1872 to 1900 and after that in Hazel Grove and Bramhall Urban District until its absorption into Stockport Metropolitan Borough in 1974.
