Stockport Sunday School Procession.

:circa 1899
Archives
Memories of the halcyon days of Stockport Sunday School are recalled in this picture of the school's annual procession of witness before the turn of the century. It is interesting to note the then fashions of the children and teachers. With the sun shining, the children wore thick dresses and suits, with long stockings and boots. The teacher in the foreground wears a feather boa, while the one dressed in white carries a parasol, or was it an umbrella? The scene is Wellington Road South, with the Wellington Road Chapel, now the site of the Essoldo Cinema, and the Mechanics' Institute, now replaced by the Central Library, being prominent. The tall chimney is that of Sutton and Torkington Ltd., hat works, Lord Street.
