Reminders that Heaton Mersey was once outside the County Borough of Stockport, are these two houses, which until 1913 were known as Heaton Mersey Police Station. They were built by the Lancashire County Constabulary which was responsible for the policing of Heaton Norris Urban District until 1913 when the District was taken into the County Borough and the houses came under the control of Stockport Watch Committee. The houses, nos. 563 and 565 Didsbury Road have not been occupied by the Police since 1961, when Superintendent C. Hargreaves, the then Deputy Chief Constable, and the last serving Policeman to live there, retired. They are still owned by the Watch Committee, but are managed by the Housing Committee.
