Billy Sweet with his horse drawn cart with horse 'Dolly' delivering greengrocery on Broadstone Hall Road South, Reddish. To me, he was a familiar sight in Reddish in the 40s and 50s and was also a sunday school teacher at Reddish Green Methodist Chapel. He also undertook light general haulage duties with his horse and cart. In c1946/47 a local resident built a garage for his first car out of wartime air-raid shelter wooden doors, battened together; his son can see Billy's cart now, arriving outside their house on Marland Crescent loaded with the doors laid like a giant flat-pack!
