Norbury Parish Church (or St. Thomas's to give its proper name) was built to replace the derelict Norbury Chapel (off Mill Lane) on land given by Thomas Legh of Lyme and was financed by £2000 from the Commissioners for Building New Churches and donations from Peter Legh of Booths, the Vernons of Poynton and other local people. It was consecrated in 1834. This view in 1890 shows the church across open fields.
