The Land-O-Cakes, 48 Middle Hillgate, formerly the Lower Packhorse. First licensed in 1850, it closed its doors for the last time on May 21 1918. Richard Price, whose name appears over the doors, and is pictured in the doorway with his family, was licensee from 1904 to 1912. After the first world war, the pub became a furniture shop, and in more recent years it has been taken over by a paint manufacturer.
