The Thatched House on Lavender's Brow, Churchgate. The Brows of Stockport No. 8. Unlike the other brows in Stockport, Lavender's Brow does not provide a link from one thoroughfare to another. It runs from Churchgate down a steep gradient into Lower Carrs, but for most of its length it is nothing more than a cart track. It takes its name presumably from Mr. William Lavender who built a cotton mill there, now used for various trades by different firms. Perhaps its best claim to fame is that at its junction with Churchgate stands the Thatched House, one of the town's oldest licenced houses.
