Thatcher's Fish Shop - Hazel Grove

1900:c. 1900
Archives
Sarah Ann Thatcher standing at the door of her fresh fish shop at 163 London Road. Wife of Jonah Thatcher - nee Webb - and sister of Cyrus Webb. The fish shop had been in the Thatcher family for several generations and Jonah is said to have been related to Jonathon Thatcher, the "Cheshire Farmer", who saddled his cow and rode into Stockport Market in 1784 to protest at the saddle tax on horses. In the late 1960s the business was sold to Hallsworth's Fish Shops until it closed mid 1990s.
