High Street Steps at top of the street (from Pickfords Brow). These steps were the public right of way before the present steps (see on left) were made in 1866.They emerged in the Royal Oak Yard and Underbank by passing along a passage at the rear of Turners Vaults. These steps are shown on old maps of 1680. (More info. on rear of original photo in library).
