Unofficial ceremony for the last steam train to leave the Edgeley Motive Power Depot. The engine number (on the smokebox numberplate, just below the chimney) was 48170. Therefore the engine was one of the heavy-freight "8F" class. Regarding the diesel locomotives; on the right a diesel shunter (although they were not exclusively used for shunting), one of the numerous British Railways built class. Partially hidden by the 8F was a diesel-electric locomotive built by the English Electric Company. This one looks like a Type 3. ("Type" was the prefix to a number which indicated how powerful the engine was).
