Carr Brook, Hopes Carr, town centre shown after landscaping operations in 1981/82. The tunnel is all that remains of the northern wing of Lower Carr Mill (6 storeys) built across the valley. The mill reservoir, originally used for water power, occupied the stream up to the mill tunnel. In the 19th century a wooden bridge spanned the reservior near the tunnel.
