Carr Brook, Hopes Carr, town centre shown after landscaping in 1981/82. The tunnel is all that remains of the northern wing of Lower Carr Mill (6 storeys) built across the valley. The mill reservoir, originally built for water power, occupied the stream up to the mill tunnel. In the mid 19th century a wooden footbridge spanned the reservoir.
