This is a record of one of the most historic events in the long life of Stockport Sunday School, the laying of the foundation stone of the Centenary Hall. The stone was laid by Mrs. Henry Bell, Mayoress of Stockport, on October 5, 1907. The fund for the building of the hall was started by a legacy left by an old scholar who died in the United States. The hall was opened by Lady Sheffield, who was formerly Lady Stanley of Alderley, on Saturday, October 9, 1909, when the hymn "These walls we to thine honour rise" was sung.
