Drawing taken from "The Grand Bazaar Book" of the Bullock Smithy Methodist Church which stood on Chapel Street where the Electricity Board garages (opposite the Retirement Flats) are today. It was built by the Rev. David Simpson in 1774 after he was discharged from St Michael's Church, Macclesfield, for his Wesleyan sympathies. In 1786 John Wesley preached here. The right wall was the graveyard which today is the car park used by Thomas Hooley's Printworks (once the site of the Wesleyan Sunday School). The Chapel was last used in 1884 before being moved to a new church (built in 1883) on the corner of Wesley Street and Chapel Street. The school moved to new adjoining buildings in 1914.
