Mealhouse Brow, town centre, Stockport. This little shop, 140 years ago was the seat of government of the town and the direction of the police was conducted from here by the magistrates. The constables sat here daily and the petty sessions were held fortnightly. The old dungeons were in the adjoining building. (More details on original image)
