Richard Cobden Letters
Richard Cobden (1804-1865) was one of the most influential British politicians of the 19th century, leading the Anti-Corn Law League to fight import duties on grain. He was also MP for Stockport between 1841 and 1847.
At the Stockport Local Heritage Library, we hold various original letters of Richard Cobden, many of which have helped to inform his speeches and pamphlets. Browse the archive catalogue of his letters below. To see even more, check out the current online exhibition by Leeds Beckett University, The Letters of Richard Cobden, that features one of our letters.
