General notes:
One of Mr. Mottram's great grandmothers was Sarah Harrison and Harrison family papers (1811-1844) form the first two sections. James Harrison, described in Pigot's 1824 Manchester Directory as a cotton spinner, lived' in Miller Street, Manchester. Most of the papers relate to the administration of his estate by Ann Harrison.Sarah Harrison married William Mottram and the third section of the papers (1851-1970) are Mottram family papers. The Mottrams lived at Shaw Heath, Stockport. William was a hatter and his son Thomas was also described as a hatter on his marriage in 1877 although he later became a master grocer.
