The engine number, below the chimney, was composed of five numerals. This was a British Railways number, and means the photograph was taken after the railways were nationalized in 1948. The engine's appearance suggests one of the ex-L.N.E.R. 'B1' class (the number looks close to 61272 or 61212, which would confirm the identification). A clean, white oil-lamp is in place above each of the engine's buffers, informing railway staff this was an express passenger train. Note the gas lamps on the station platformsIdentical image to 24747. Millers Dale is east of Buxton.
