By the end of March 1915, four local council schools were converted to military hospitals, one being Hollywood Park, where the students attended part time, in order to make room for the patients. By September 29th, the four council schools had received 300 wounded from the battle of Loos: by December 1915 750 beds were being provided. Hollywood Park, eventually provided 120 beds, being presided over by 2nd West General Hospital, Manchester. Eventually 23 alternative military hospitals, including the town hall, were being used.
