Written by H. R. Ellis, during his 50 year stay in Cheadle Royal Hospital; receiving treatment for trauma, suffered as a result of his experiences in the First World War.He spent his time identifying and numbering the trees in the parkland that surrounded the hospital; spending many hours researching in the library.Dr. Egryn M. Jones, a local G.P., who worked in the hospital, was shown the book. He was moved by H. R. Ellis' dedication to, what became, the project of half a lifetime, and decided to re-publish.To H. R. Ellis' original material, Dr. Jones has added a selection of poems about trees. Also, some pen and ink sketches of trees, drawn by the North Wales artist Alister Winter Roberts. The black and white, Art Nouveau style illustration, on the dust-cover of the book, is a copy of the original design by Richard Hinks. In the absence of any known, existing family of H. R. Ellis, any profits from the sale of this book are to be donated to the British Legion.Abstract taken from insert.
