Robinson, John and Diane2020
eBook
In the mid-1600s Liverpool rejected a proposal to build a lighthouse because at thattime mariners were being misled with false fires lit by the Cheshire wreckers. Thetown elders therefore felt it safer that those at sea should ignore all lights on shore. But by the mid-1700s the town was becoming a busy port. Although a small dock hadbeen built in 1715 at Liverpool, the great sea lake, known as Hoyle Lake, was stillused to load and off-load larger ships.
