Following a successful trial in Bramhall Library, Open+ technology is available in more Stockport Libraries which allows residents to use the library for extra hours each week, outside staffed hours. For the opening hours of these libraries please click on one of the following or go straight to our opening hours pages.

Customers simply scan their card at the terminal, enter their PIN and access the library. Whilst in the library they can borrow books, return books, pick up reservations and use the public PCs or the Wi-Fi on their own device. Face to face information, advice and guidance, and photocopying/printing services are available during our staffed hours.

To use Open+, residents need to sign-up with a member of staff at one of the libraries above and provide proof of identity (for example, driving licence, birth certificate or passport) as well as a proof of address (for example council tax bill, utility bill or bank statement). They must be at least 16 years old to use this service.

There are a variety of measures in place to support customers whilst using the Library in Open+. The Library has CCTV which is monitored during Open+ and the cameras give excellent coverage of the Library. Open+ controls the lighting of the Library so it will ensure the Library is bright and welcoming whilst in Open+ mode. After registration library staff provide a full induction of the Library, including the location of emergency exits. We also provide an emergency phone, with emergency contact numbers on and during the induction customers are shown the location of the phone and board.
