David A. Pailin, Manchester University, UK. Palin was born in 1936, he studied history and then divinity at Trinity College Cambridge. He studied theology at the Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University Dallas USA and at Manchester University. He taught the philosophy of religion at Manchester University since 1966. In 1979 and 1980, he was dean of the faculty of Theology, and from August 1944 to August 1977 he was head of the department of Philosophy. His books include The Way to Faith (a study of Newmans Grammar of Assent), Attitudes to Other Religions, Comparative Religion in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Century Britain, Groundwork of Philosophy of Religion, God and the Process of Reality, The Anthropological Character of Theology, The Gentle Touch: From a Theology to Handicap to a Theology of Human Being, and Proving the Foundations. He also contributed to a number of books and published articles in professional journals. He has a collection of seventeenth and eighteenth-century works on philosophy. He has two children and four grand-children. (to date 2002). David was a Methodist Minister for Romiley from Sept 1961 to August 1966, Hempshaw Lane Methodist Church (1961 -62) and Windlehurst Methodist Church (1962 - 66).
